My Personal North – Prototype for a piece digital jewellery

My personal North is a prototype for a piece of digital jewellery. The piece always points to a certain direction. The ambiguity of the piece allows for several interpretations. Compared to a compass which is used for navigation and orientation always showing a direction relative to the magnetic north, the piece is anchored to a chosen point.

One can manually move the needle and fix it to a certain direction. Once fixed, the needle behaves like a compass. At random times the needle of the compass flickers and spins freely, slowly orientating itself. In a poetic way, the piece invites a person to reflect on what is happening at the moment, letting people reflect on their sense of self and their connection to the anchor point.
